The scope of the NAOS Strategy extends to businesses, recognising that the
various business sectors are agents that have a significant influence on the
availability of products that contribute to healthy diets and therefore can
have a positive influence on the adoption of healthy habits. Since it began, the NAOS Strategy has been characterised by its focus on
close collaboration between the public and private sectors, which it believes is
essential to achieving its objectives. Its objectives in this area include the prevention of obesity and overweight
through the food industry and hotels and restaurant chains and the
development, distribution and promotion of healthier products that contribute to
healthy and balanced diets. It also believes that it is necessary to regulate the way in which food
advertising is carried out through the media, especially when it is aimed at
children and adolescents. Therefore, the PAOS self-regulation code on advertising
aimed at minors is a vital initiative.
